Egbo demands transparency, accountability as he inaugurates market, public motor park committees

The Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Area in Delta State, Olorogun Jaro Movudu Egbo, has called for transparency and accountability from members of Ughelli Urban Market and Public Motor Park Committees. Olorogun Egbo, made the demands Friday October 4 in Ughelli, while inaugurating the two sub - committees.                                 

 

Our Ughelli North Bureau Chief, reports that the inauguration marked a significant step towards improving the revenue profile of Ughelli North Local Government Council.

The Ughelli North Chief Executive, directed that all revenues generated by both committees, should be paid into the Council's account, insisting on proper financial management.                       

 

The Chairman highlighted the use of market-generated funds for essential infrastructure, including water supply, public toilets, security, and creating a conducive trading environment for traders and buyers.                                   

 

He also urged the committee to ensure timely payments from market store occupants, while conducting an inventory of the stores to ascertain the exact number of shops and the revenue potential for the local government.

 

Addressing the Ughelli Urban Market Committee, Barr. Egbo drew attention to the environmental challenges within the main market, tasking the committee with maintaining cleanliness through regular sanitation exercises. 

 

He proposed bi-monthly environmental sanitation days on Thursdays to keep the market clean and operational. 

 

The Chairman also raised concerns over illegal Keke riders and improper parking along the tarred road, which he noted causes traffic congestion. He urged the committee to immediately regulate traffic within the market area.      

 

The Urban Market Committee members include:

2. Ochuko Erah - Market Mistress (Foodstuffs)

3. Mrs Igho Oharisi - Market Mistress (Goods Market)

4. Madam Evelyn Ogheneovo - Member

5. Ikogho Blessing - Member

6. Emmanuel Onorgha - Member

7. Ufuoma Oviriara - Member

8. Shenuwa Happy - Member

9. Arumala Jephtha - Secretary (Goods Market)

10. George Akureyi - Secretary (Foodstuff Market)

 

Similarly, Barr. Egbo instructed the Public Motor Park Committee to prioritize the safety and security of travelers. 

 

He expressed concern over the increasing number of illegal motor parks in the town. 

 

He called for an immediate public awareness campaign to educate residents on the importance of using recognized motor parks for their safety. The Public Motor Park Revenue Committee members include:

4. Godspower Oharisi - Member 

5. Christopher Imoniunu - Member

In his remarks, Pastor Aghogho Omotor, Chairman of the Ughelli Urban Market Committee, expressed gratitude to the Chairman for the opportunity to serve, assuring that the committees will fulfill their duties diligently and in good faith.

 

Council officials in attendance included the Secretary to the Local Government Area, Pastor Goodluck Irikefe Unuavworho; Chief of Staff, Sir Prince Elvis Oharisi (JP); Principal Secretary, Olorogun Fidelis Erhiurhoro; Director of Information, Mrs. Anna Inana; and Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Efe Ekete.
