Delta: Itsekiri leaders in APC forge common front, say federal appointment doesn’t translate to party leadership

Itsekiri leaders in the All Progressives Congress, APC, have resolved to further defend and project the interests of Itsekiri Nation, saying no one in Delta State, should misconstrue federal appointment for APC leadership.

The Itsekiri APC leaders in their resolution after a meeting held in Warri, Delta State, Sunday October 13, insisted: “Federal appointment does not automatically translate someone as a leader of a party, the leadership of a party, is dependent on one’s contributions to the growth and development of the party. If you are a federal government appointee, you owe it a duty to invest in the party, to make it stronger. We will engage the leaders from other senatorial districts, with a view to build a strong pillar for our party.

Former Delta State Organizing Secretary of APC, Sir Amorighoye Sunny Mene, who addressed newsmen shortly after the meeting, stated: “We passed a vote of confidence on our President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“We also identified with the current hardship in the country and we believe firmly that the President is doing everything within his power to eliminate the hardship.

“We also know for a fact that the policies of the federal government, have begun to yield results and we call on Nigerians and the people of Delta State in particular, to be patient with the government of Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in due time, we will begin to enjoy the benefits of these policies that were boldly taken for the betterment of the country.”

Leader of the APC in Delta South, Chief Ayirimi Emami, on his part, said the current economic situation in the country, was as a result of accumulated issues, which President Bola Tinubu is doing everything possible to address.

Chief Emami, averred: “We have to make some hard decisions and policies, like taking off fuel subsidy, we know is very touching to some of us from the riverine areas and also the increment in transportation. But this decision needed to be taken, because where you spend and you do not invest in, these are the kind of things you will suffer.

“For years, our refineries have been shut down, we have been importing and we know that our President has been pushing to see how these refineries will work. For instance, look at the current NDDC today, it's no longer business as usual.

“If you go to our different communities, you will see one impactful project or the other, that was not the case prior to Tinubu administration. NDDC used to abandon people in the communities and bring people from Abuja to do the work, but today I know one or two leaders from this region, that are executing the NDDC community development projects and benefitting.

“If you go round, you will see a lot of swamp buggy working, courtesy of the NDDC, which is a federal government agency. The Warri -Benin Expressway, is presently under reconstruction, after the reconstruction, we will definitely enjoy the benefit.”
