Ughelli North: Egbo Reaffirms Commitment to Development, spotlights achievements in Education, Healthcare, Security

In a determined drive to uplift Ughelli North Local Government Area, the Chairman, Olorogun Jaro Egbo, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to comprehensive development.

During a meeting with members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Ughelli Correspondents Chapel, at the council secretariat, Egbo highlighted key initiatives aimed at improving the lives of residents.

Our Ughelli North Bureau Chief, reports that Olorogun Egob emphasized his focus on three critical areas—education, the environment, and security—while also fostering professional development and promoting transparency.

"We have established regular communication channels to ensure that all members of the local government area are informed and engaged," Egbo stated, adding that his administration holds weekly prayers every Monday to seek divine guidance in governance.

Egbo revealed that upon assuming office, he undertook a tour of health centers across Ughelli North, identifying serious deficiencies in some facilities.

In response, his administration has commenced the construction of an ultra-modern maternity health center at the Local Government Headquarters.

This center, he noted, will be fully equipped with state-of-the-art facilities to address healthcare needs in the area. In education, Egbo stressed the importance of improving primary education, proposing collaborations with the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) to enhance teacher training and upgrade school facilities.

"We have allocated funds saved from internally generated revenue, amounting to over N25 million, to provide uniforms, notebooks, and writing desks for our pupils," he announced.

Turning to security, the chairman addressed the urgent need for peace and safety, noting that insecurity was a major issue before he took office.

He convened a Zonal Security Meeting involving neighboring councils, which has since brought about a period of relative calm. However, he expressed his deep concern over the recent killing of a newly posted Divisional Police Officer in Agbarho.

On infrastructure, Egbo explained that he has renovated key offices, including those of the Chairman, Vice Chairman, and the Leader of the Legislative Arm, creating a more conducive working environment for local government officials.

He also revealed that official vehicles have been procured for key personnel and offices, including a Toyota Hiace bus for the Press Crew.

Regarding local roads, Egbo disclosed that he has secured a promise from Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to consider their proposal for road repairs in the upcoming state budget.

 "We are pushing for the approval of funds to repair 20 kilometers of roads," he said.

The chairman also highlighted his administration’s success in improving environmental sanitation, particularly in the Ughelli main market, which has been cleared of debris and street vendors, making it more organized and accessible.

In response, Comrade Sunday Apah, Chairman of the NUJ Ughelli Correspondents Chapel, praised Egbo for his achievements.

"In just a few months, your leadership has brought remarkable improvements to healthcare, security, and infrastructure," Apah said.

He also lauded the chairman’s transparency and collaborative approach with the journalism community, especially the appointment of a media liaison officer from their ranks.

The meeting underscored Egbo's commitment to engaging with key stakeholders, ensuring that the development of Ughelli North remains a top priority under his administration.
