A Bill for the establishment of Federal Polytechnic, Bomadi in Delta State, which was sponsored by the Senator representing Delta South Senatorial District in the Senate, Sen. Joel Onowakpo Thomas, successfully passed through First Reading on the floor of the Senate today, Thursday November 21.

Senator Joel Onowakpo, in a tweet on his X handle few minutes ago, explained that the Bill, was in fulfilment of his mandate to effectively represent and champion the progress of Delta South Senatorial District and attract as much federal presence as possible.

He asserted: “I am pleased to announce the sponsorship of the Federal Polytechnics Act (Amendment) Bill, 2024 (SB 540). This landmark bill seeks to establish the Federal Polytechnic, Bomadi, in Delta State.

“Today, 21st November 2024, the bill successfully passed its first reading on the floor of the Senate.

“The proposed Federal Polytechnic will serve as a transformative institution, dedicated to fostering technical and vocational education, equipping our youths with the skills needed to drive Nigeria’s economic advancement.  Much more important, is the need to effectively engage the teeming youths of Delta South Senatorial District in creative education thereby reducing youth restiveness and increasing our oil production output in the region.

“Key objectives of this institution include the following:

“1. Advancing Technical Education: The Polytechnic will provide specialised training in technical and vocational disciplines, bridging industry skill gaps and producing graduates who are not only job-ready but also capable of innovation.

“2. Driving Economic Growth: By creating a pool of skilled manpower, the institution will spur economic development in Delta State and Nigeria at large, attracting investments and generating sustainable job opportunities.

“3. Expanding Access to Education: The Polytechnic will significantly enhance access to quality education, particularly for rural communities, fostering social equity and reducing disparities in educational opportunities.

“4. Employment: No doubt, by the time the polytechnic takes off, employment opportunities will be available and the economy of Bomadi and environs will have a significant boost

“I remain deeply committed to ensuring that this bill becomes law, paving the way for a brighter, more prosperous future for Delta South.

“I will continue to engage with my colleagues and stakeholders to turn this vision into reality.

“I also implore all well-meaning people of Delta South Senatorial District to support this bill in whatever way possible.”
