Warri: We do not have any tribal sect amongst us, we are for government - Mciver Marker Traders

Traders in Mciver Market, Warri, under the auspices of Mciver Market Men and Women Association, have called on the Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Comr. Agbateyiniro Weyinmi Isaac, to fish out the person or persons that sponsored the protesters, who called themselves Itsekiri Women in Mciver, saying: “In Mciver Market, we do not have any tribal sect, no Itsekiri women, no Hausa women and no Igbo women, we are all under one umbrella.”

 

 

 

 

The leadership of Mciver Market Men and Women Association, made the call Friday November 29, when they made a peaceful march to the Warri South Council Main Secretariat in Warri, to register their displeasure with the action of perceived imposters and pledged their unalloyed loyalty to the Warri South Local Government Council.

The Chairman of Warri South Chapter of Delta State Traders and Market Leaders' Council, Mr. Stephen Amalili, who doubles as Chairman of Mciver Market Men and Women Association, led the placard carrying traders, saying: “We do not know them (the said Itsekiri Women in Mciver) they do not sell in Mciver Market, they do not have a shop or shade in the market.

“Mciver Market traders are for the government, any instruction the Council give us, that's what we will follow, because we know that it is the local government that owns the market. All we want is peace in our market, Mciver has been a peaceful market for the longest time.”

Two other leaders of Mciver Market Men and Women Association, Mrs. Victoria Gold and Mrs. Mercy Edevughe, who also spoke in the same vein, thanked the Comr. Agbateyiniro administration of Warri South for the Ten Million Naira (N10,000,000.00) soft loan recently given to them.

 The Vice Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Hon. Kingsley Edafiadjebre, who addressed the traders on behalf of Comr. Agbateyiniro, stated: “I want to appreciate all of you for coming to the Council to complain and not take the laws into your hands.

“You all are aware that it is the local government council that owns market. I want to advice you all to go back to your various businesses and be rest assured that nobody will disturb you.

“The Council, has appointed someone to be in charge of revenue collection at Mciver Market. The revenue generated from the market, is what the Chairman, will use to do more good works in the market.”

The Leader of Warri South Legislative Arm, Hon. Joy Ejumudo, also addressed the traders, who brandished placards with inscriptions such as, “Maciver is under Warri South Local Government Council”, “Market is for all Tribes”, “Maciver Market Union is peaceful” and “Maciver Market Union support Warri South Local Government Council on the management of the market”

Warri South Local Government Council, had appointed Gehobless Nigeria Enterprise, owned by Mr. Kenneth George, to collect revenue accruing to the Council from Mciver Market and environs.

The Council, explained that the job contracted to Gehobless Nigeria Enterprise, on Friday November 22, entails the collection of revenue “on second hand (used) clothes, shoes and bags from Monday market days.”
