Professionalism: Chartered Institute Of Printer Calls For Creation Of Office Of Printer General


President and Chairman-in-council, Chartered Institute of Professional Printers of Nigeria, Clement Koko, has called for the creation of the Office of Printer General of the federation.

 

Koko also demanded for the appointment of the Printer General of the federation as obtainable in accounting profession and others in government circle.

 

The President and Chairman-in-council, made the call while on assessment visitation to the newly established Department of Printing Technology at the Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, along with his working team on Wednesday.

 

He said that the assessment visitation to the new department is part of the early process or step that would facilitate granting of full accreditation by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) to the Polytechnic to run the programme.

 

According to him, "Printing as mother of all professions has been relegated to the background. Printing has gone beyond paper work but serves as wealth creation. Its important cannot be over emphasized interns of documentation in all facets and office operations generally"

 

"We want federal government to create Printer General Office as well as its Printer Commission as head in line with the professional body" Koko further appealed.

 

Our Kogi State Correspondent, reports that he declared that the new Printing Technology Department is a self funding one in term of income generating.

 

He called on the management of the institution to see the new department as a baby that should not be allowed to die.

 

He appealed to students and staff of the department to work towards ensuring that they become Chartered Printers so as to feet into the system.

 

Earlier, Deputy Rector of Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, Dr. Samuel Olowo, while conducting the visitation team on assessment of facilities in the new department, disclosed that the institution is working in collaboration with the State Government to ensure that NBTE grant full accreditation to run the programme.

 

"Kogi Poly is excited about Department of Printing Technology coming up. Am glad to inform you that there is Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between us and Kogi State Government that recognises our operation. We commend the Rector, Professor Usman Ogbo for his political will towards the establishment of the department and also Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for giving us the opportunity to use Government Printing Press

 

"Iam also overwhelmed that this is the only department of Printing Technology in place in the entire tertiary institutions across North Central Zone, Nigeria" Deputy Rector hinted.

 

He thanked the visitation team for identifying with Kogi Poly towards the task to accredit the programme by NBTE.
