The Kogi State Government has assured that it will through the Community and Social Development Agency, make nutritional support to the vulnerable groups in the society a top priority.
The General Manager, Kogi State Community and Social Development Agency, Chief Mallam Momoh Dauda made the disclosure at the official flag off of ceremony for malnourished child, vulnerable groups and Special People held in Lokoja.
The special people include pregnant women, nursing mothers, children living with HIV/AIDs, orphans, physically challenged migrants, displaced children and the Vulnerable amongst others.
Our Kogi State Correspondent, reports that the General Manager praised Gov. Usman Ahmed Ododo for making the well-being of the people top on his administration priority.
He noted that the State Government has created the enabling environment through sustained payment of counterpart funds for the agency to deliver on it mandate.
"The present administration realizes the importance of the people having a balance nutrition".
"Malnutrition has been discovered as the challenge to the vulnerable groups in the society. The State Government is interested in alleviating the malnutrition challenge of the vulnerable groups, reason why Gov. Ododo has mandated that we commence a program that will improve on the nutrition of our people, particularly women and children".
"Gov. Ododo has assured that no effort will be spared geared towards improving the nutritional aspect of the people of the State".
The General Manager reiterated the concern of the State Government to making nutrition a top priority in the State.
He described the administration of Gov Ododo as fantastic in meeting with the well-being of the people, pointing out that in just a year, the State has witnessed a transformation in all aspect of the State life.
The General Manager described the flag off as a breakthrough in the area of nutritional support, maintaining that no stone would be left unturned in the realization of the State Government objectives.
In her remarks, the GPMC spokesperson, described malnutrition as a pressing issue in Kogi State, Nigeria.
She lamented that recent reports shows that over 7,000 children in Kogi state are found to be severely malnourished, while close to 10,000 were moderately malnourished and more than 5,600 children were diagnosed with severe acute malnutrition (SAM).
She notes that malnutrition can have severe consequence including stunted growth, weakened immunity and increased susceptibility to illness, added that children suffering from-wasting-have higher rates of mortality, call for a multisectoral and multifaceted approach, reasons for collaboration.
Also in his remarks, the Principal, Muslim Community Secondary School, Abubakar Abdullahi Haruna, described the intervention of CSDA to the Muslim Community Secondary School as unprecedented, praised Gov Usman Ahmed Ododo for his proactiveness.
Highlights of the flag off ceremony of the Nutritional support was the Inauguration of the group project management committee made up of nutritional supplement, a renovated classroom and a rehabilitated motorized borehole.
The malnourished child and Special People Groups is under the NG Cares program.
