The Academic Council Representative of Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko in Warri South-West Local Government Area, Delta State, Engr. (Dr.) Paul Tamaragaibi Elijah, has uncovered how Fuzzy Linguistics and Failure Modes, Effects and Criticality Analysis, FMECA, can be used to improve the reliability and efficiency of pump systems in petrochemical facilities.
Engr. (Dr.) Elijah, who brought the discovery to the fore during the First International Conference on Blue Economy, hosted by the Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko, explained that the presentation, titled "Risk-Based Analysis for Pump Systems: Fuzzy Linguistics and FMECA in a Petrochemical Facility," explored advanced methodologies for assessing and mitigating risks in critical industrial operations.
Fresh Angle International, can report that the ceremony, which held between February 16 and 19, afforded the iconic academia the platform to demonstrate the leadership of Nigeria Maritime University in maritime research and innovation as it affects the Blue Economy.

By integrating fuzzy logic (a method that accounts for uncertainty in decision-making) the study offered a more precise and adaptable risk assessment framework.
The approach was particularly crucial in the maritime and petrochemical sectors, where operational failures can lead to significant environmental and economic consequences.
Speaking at the conference, Engr. (Dr.) Elijah, emphasized the importance of data-driven risk assessment in ensuring sustainability and efficiency in maritime operations.
He highlighted how Nigeria Maritime University is pioneering research that aligns with global best practices, positioning the institution as a key player in maritime safety, engineering innovation and the broader Blue Economy.
The conference brought together experts, policymakers, and industry leaders, who discussed sustainable practices, technological advancements, and regulatory frameworks, shaping the future of the Blue Economy.
The University Council Representative’s presentation was widely praised for its relevance and potential impact, further cementing the university’s reputation as a hub for maritime excellence.
