The intrigues that have so far greeted the forthcoming April 26 Warri South Constituency 1 Bye-Election has taken a new twist as Princess (Mrs.) Shola Daibo, the preferred choice of Peoples Democratic Party leaders in Warri South Local Government Area led by Chief Joseph Otumara is set to contest the poll as candidate of Accord Party, just as Chairman of Warri South Local Government, Hon. Matthew Mofe Edema, who ordinarily has the popularity of people on the street have dropped his ambition.
Fresh Angle International gathered from impeccable sources that following pressure mounted on Governor Ifeanyi Okowa by Warri South PDP leaders led by Chief Joseph Otumara at a stakeholders’ meeting held Wednesday night at the Governor’s Office Annex in Warri, Dr. Okowa reportedly prevailed on Hon. Matthew Edema to drop his ambition, a decision that has left the Warri South Council Chairman’s numerous supporters distraught.
Meanwhile, as a result of the polarization of PDP between Senator Ali Modu Sheriff and Ahmed Makarfi, Princess Shola Daibo will now contest the hugely anticipated poll on the platform of Accord Party and it’s unclear as at the time of this report whether the Ali Modu Sheriff’s leadership of PDP will field Mr. Tunde Fregene, a loyalist of Chief Otumara, who has purportedly picked PDP nomination form under Ali Modu Sheriff
The decision to direct Hon. Mofe Edema to step down for Princess Daibo after Comrade Michael Tidi was tactically ruled out from the contest by Governor Okowa appears to have open the way for what might be a head-on battle between two members of the Warri Royal family: Princess (Mrs.) Shola Daibo and Prince Stanley Emiko of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Though the opposition All Progressives Congress, APC was yet to conduct its primary as at the time of this report, the seeming indifference of the 2015 APC House of Assembly candidate for Warri South Constituency 1, Barr. Robinson Ariyo towards the April 26 Bye-Election appears to have increased the popularity of Prince Stanley Emiko, who is heavily backed by Chief Ayirimi Emami. Mr. Roland Atsiangbe and a few others are equally eyeing the seat on APC platform.
