The Governing Council of the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, FUPRE, Ugbomro in Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State is at loggerhead with the Senate of the Institution over an order to the Vice –Chancellor, Prof. Akeahomen Akii Ibhabode to reverse the University Congress decision to replace four Council members for alleged non-performance, Fresh Angle International has gathered
The Senator Nimi Barigha-Amange –led Governing Council was alleged to have pressured the Vice Chancellor into calling Congress to inform them of Council decision to retain the non-performing Senate internal representatives in the Governing Council and thereby perpetuate the corrupt practice of self aggrandizement.
It was further gathered that the Council whose tenure in office terminate Sunday April 9 has been pressuring the Vice Chancellor to release University funds for frivolous and selfish purposes which the V-C has purportedly declined.
Tension heightened Thursday April 6 at the Institution when Senate at a meeting with the VC told him that Senate decision remains and the old hands must give way to the fresh four members who will adequately represent their collective interest at Council meeting henceforth.
Meanwhile, the Governing Council is set to hold its last meeting today, Friday April 7 to take last minute decisions on promotions, approvals, appointments and so on to favour their various candidates, including the rejected Senate representatives before leaving office, even as the University Congress and ASUU members are said to be preparing to disrupt the meeting.
