The Chairman of National Youth Council of Nigeria, NYCN, Warri South Chapter, Comr. Destiny Tuoma Noritsegho, has begun moves to create a comprehensive database for youths in Warri South Local Government Area.
Comr. Noritsegho, who made the disclosure Thursday May 8, when he led other members of his executive on a working visit to the Legislative Arm of Warri South Local Government Council, said it was time to change the narrative of people’s perspective about the youths.
The Warri South Youth leader, told members of Warri South Legislative Arm, that as part of his strategies to change people’s thought about youths, his leadership want the collaboration of members of the Legislative Arm, to achieve deep penetration into communities within Warri South, with a view to coming up with a database for youths in Warri South Local Government Area, which would be in-line with the global best practices.
He stated: “Everybody sees it from their own perspective, some see youth activities as another way of empowerment. We don’t see it that way. We are here to make a difference.
“Youth Council was enacted into law with an Act of Parliament on the 26th of August, 1964 and was signed into Law by former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
“It should no longer be business as usual. One of the steps we want to take is to create a database of all the youths in the local government. You don’t do a community election without going the proper way.
“In Warri South, government is very involved in matters like this.
“We must move from this level to another level, we must take youth business very seriously. We can’t just call on youths only during elections, let’s continue to have this harmonious relationship with the youths.”
The Majority Leader of Warri South Legislative Arm, Hon. Tuoyo Ebigbeyi, who responded on behalf of members of Warri South Legislative Arm, assured the new leadership of National Youth Council of Nigeria, Warri South Chapter of collaboration.
Hon. Ebigbeyi, added: “Youth Council, was like a portfolio then, but seeing it be a reality today, is something I must commend.
“Since we now have the body in Warri South, we will now know more about the youth council.”
