Co-operate with refuse management firms, Warri South Council enjoins residents

Authorities of Warri South local government council have appealed to residents of Warri to co-operate with firms accredited by the council to manage waste in the area.
 
The council Head of Environment Department, Mr. Frank Eruebi who noted that the council is working in synergy with the state government in the renewed refuse management drive, made the appeal Monday October 8 in Warri, while monitoring the commencement of waste evacuation along Cemetery road, Warri by a contracting firm, RAPHA WASTE DISPOSAL.
 
He disclosed that 6 waste management companies have so far been accredited by the council out of about 45 to manage waste in the local government, stressing that the council is yet to license more firms to take care of areas yet to be covered.
 
Chief Executive Officer of RAPHA WASTE DISPOSAL, Engr. Orits Ogbe disclosed that his firm has concluded arrangements to evacuate refuse four times a week in its areas of coverage, with the possibility of increasing the frequency in the event of increasing refuse challenge.
 
According to him, 2,007 houses have so far been mapped out in Pessu area, while 85 and 227 houses in Sido and Ogedegbe respectively have been registered in its area of coverage.
 
Manager of the contracting firm, Mr. Besidone Ebule in a chat explained that all houses along Cemetery road, Obire, Ereku, Sido, Iyara and Pessu Market have been registered to ensure effective waste management of its coverage areas.
 
He disclosed that his company is in the process of commencing public sensitizations on the need to dump refuse properly so as to avoid health hazards.
