We are facing inhuman situation, Itsekiri RDC contractors cry out, threaten operations of Chevron

Indigenous Contractors to Itsekiri Regional Development Committee, IRDC, under the auspices of IRDC Contractors' Forum, have accused Chevron Nigeria Limited, CNL of deliberately impoverishing them, saying they are facing inhuman situation as a result of non -payment for jobs they executed.

The contractors in a statement made available to Fresh Angle International Friday night, said despite serious of publications and appeals to Delta State government and relevant security agencies to intervene, Chevron Nigeria Limited, " blatantly refused" to release funds to the leadership of Itsekiri Regional Development Committee, to pay them for contracts they successfully executed in record time and inline with the contract specification.

The Chairman and Secretary of IRDC Contractors' Forum, Mr. Paul Moju and Mr. James Odume, respectively, in the statement, lamented: " Most of us, have been selling our property to pay banks for the loans we took to execute the projects.

" Selling our property to pay the loans, hasn't been enough, because huge interest on the loans, has consumed many of us, making it difficult for many of us to meet up our daily family responsibilities."

They warned:" Our patience has waned and we have deployed every machinery to disrupt the operations of Chevron Nigeria Limited in Otunana, Makaraba, Dibi, Olero and Abiteye Fields from Tuesday December 16, 2025, if Chevron Nigeria Limited refuse to release fund to the leadership of IRDC, to enable them pay us by Monday December 15.

" We will not continue to suffer, because of the inability of Chevron Nigeria Limited, to migrate from the GMoU Governance Model to the Host Communities' Development Trust, HCDT as enshrined in the Petroleum Industry Act, PIA.

" The contracts were signed August 1, 2022 at IRDC Secretariat in Warri and we executed the jobs in record time. The contracts were awarded to us under the GMoU model and we successfully completed the jobs under the model, hence, we won't be subjected to continued suffering."
