Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei is expected to chair the grand braking inauguration of the first ever Itsekiri Education Trust billed for the Olu of Warri Palace (Aghofen) in Warri, Delta State.
The occasion which has been tentatively fixed for Saturday October 27 by 12 noon will have His Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse II, The Olu of Warri as Royal Father of the Day.
When inaugurated, the Itsekiri Education Trust will work towards ownership of educational institutions which should be situated in Itsekiri land on behalf of all Itsekiri both at secondary and tertiary levels, research centres, particularly the centre for Itsekiri studies as well as skill acquisition centres.
A statement by the Warri National Council explained that the proposed Itsekiri Education Trust which will have trustees, management committee and staff will also be saddled with the responsibility of generating funds to finance capital and recurrent costs of the institutions to be taken over or established until such institutions become self sustaining and profit yielding.
The statement adds that renowned Itsekiri educationist, Dr. Mark Ogharaerumi will chair the trustee, while former Vice Chancellor of University of Benin, Prof.Grace Alele Williams, Engr. Alexander Neyin, Prof. Gabriel Yomere, Chief Nelson Utieyione and Prof. Doris Afejuku will be among the 10-member trustees.
Chairman, Warri National Council, Chief Brown Mene, Chairman of Itsekiri Progress Club,Mr. Fred Inoma Ogbe and Dr. Mark Ogharaerumi, Chairman of the Working Committee of Itsekiri Education Trust are key arrowheads of the new initiative which is a direct response to Delta State government’s readiness to return public schools to their original owners and it was reliably gathered that the Warri National Council has already requested for the handover of Hussey College Warri as well as Iwere College Koko to it.
