Delta State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Sisanmi Otumara has told newly recruited doctors who joinedtheir counterparts in the indefinite strike declared Thursday September 1 to consider themselves fired.

The Commissioner who was athree time Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area made the declaration Thursday September 1 in a chat withnewsmen at Orerokpe shortly after paying an unscheduled visit to Warri CentralHospital, Ekpan General Hospital in Uvwe local government area as well as the GeneralHospital in Orerokpe.

Dr. Otumara who describedthe reasons given by the striking Doctors as trivial, stated that while newlyrecruited Doctors who are still under probation should consider themselvessacked, their senior colleagues will not be paid for the period of the strikedue to the no-work-no-pay policy. The Commissioner accused most of the Doctorsof using government time for their private practice.

Fresh Anglegathered that the striking Doctors are calling for the removal of the permanentsecretary of the State Health Management Board, Dr. Caroline Ajuyah, remissionof their pension fund as well as the jettisoning of attendance register.
