DESOPADEC Commits To Physically Challenged Persons

As part of its ongoing effort to support people in its mandate areas, the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC, has reaffirmed its commitment to physically challenged persons by distributing devices and mobility assistance to beneficiaries across oil-producing communities.

The Executive Director, Finance and Administration on the Board of DESOPADEC, Chief Oghenekome Reginald Okpobor today April 1, on behalf of the Board, reaffirmed this when he received members of the community of physically challenged persons from the Commission's mandate areas in his office at the Commission's Headquarters where he expressed gratitude for the delegation's trust and engagement and assured them of DESOPADEC's commitment to serving the people.

"We appreciate you for coming and for sharing your concerns with us. In DESOPADEC, our doors remain open. If you need anything from us, do not hesitate to write. Under the leadership of His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, we are doing our very best to serve the people.

"The Governor has done exceptionally well for the State and here in DESOPADEC, we strive to replicate that standard. Personally, I see myself as one of his sons. When you have a father who is doing well, you are inspired to follow in his footsteps. I want to reassure you that whenever we make commitments to collaborate and support you, we will keep our word," he said.

The Chairman of the delegation commended Chief Festus Ochonogor for his responsiveness and inclusive leadership, noting that physically challenged persons constitute about 20% of registered voters in the State and assured DESOPADEC of their support in the 2027 gubernatorial elections.

Comrade Obruche praised the DESOPADEC Board for being friendly with the physically challenged, citing the lack of protests from the group as evidence and appealed for stricter adherence to the Disability Act, emphasizing the need for accessibility in public infrastructure.

The event included the presentation of devices and mobility assistance, including six artificial limbs, 25 wheelchairs, 35 armpit crutches, 35 elbow crutches, 10 hearing aids, and 32 guide canes for the visually impaired to beneficiaries, bringing visible relief and renewed hope.
