Chairman of Warri South Local Government, Comr. Agbateyiniro Weyinmi Isaac, has begun moves to consolidate grassroots democracy in Warri South Local Government Area, with the revalidation of beneficiaries of his administration’s Sheriff Care Programme.
In a bid to deepen effects of the programme and ensure sustainable accountability, the Warri South Local Government Boss, set up a revalidation committee headed by the Vice Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. Kingsley Edafiadjebre.
The Committee, which was saddled with the responsibility of ensuring that the 731 beneficiaries, comprising 281aged people as well as 450 widows and People living With Disabilities, PWDs, held physical verification of the recipients at the Warri South Council Main Secretariat in Warri, Monday July 20.

The Sheriff Care Programme, initiated by the Comr. Agbateyiniro administration of Warri South Local Government two years ago, was aimed at mitigating the effects of removal of fuel subsidy on widows, aged persons above 65years, People living With Disabilities, PWDs, pupils and students from primary school to tertiary institutions as well as sweepers engaged to sanitize major roads and streets in Warri.

Chairman of the Revalidation Committee, Rt. Hon. Edafiadjebre, while addressing the recipients shortly before commencement of the verification exercise, explained: “This initiative, Sheriff Care Programme, was derived from the federal government’s NG Care programme and the D-CARES Programme of Delta State Government. This is to strengthen our grassroots democracy and we are here to revalidate the process.”
Four beneficiaries of the Sheriff Care Programme; Dame (Chief) Mowoe Ogbudu, Mr. Onoriode Useh, Mrs. Regina Omoh and Mr. Godwin Edjeba, while recounting their experience for the past two years, commended the Agbateyiniro administration as well as Delta State and the Federal Governments for the support programme, saying it has positively affected their wellbeing.
