Kogi East Neighborhood watch Commends Kogi Police CP Over Ajegwu Deployment To curb kidnapping

The Kogi East Neighborhood Watch (KENW), a community policing non-governmental organisation, has commended the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, CP Naziru Bello Kankarofi, mni, for the prompt deployment of police personnel to Ajegwu in Ofu Local Government Area, a location identified as a critical kidnapping flashpoint.

The group said the deployment would strengthen security around the area and help protect commuters and other road users along the corridor.

This was contained in a statement issued on Friday and signed by the Director of Public Communication, Kogi East Neighborhood Watch, Wing Commander Iye Ayefu (Rtd.).

According to the statement, “Kogi East Neighborhood Watch is very pleased with the action of the Commissioner of Police. This prompt deployment will go a long way in reducing and de-escalating kidnapping activities within the Ajegwu general area of Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.”

Our Kogi State Correspondent, reports that KENW described the deployment as a timely and strategic intervention, noting that the presence of security personnel at the identified flashpoint would serve as a deterrence to criminal elements operating in the area.

The organisation said, “We commend the Commissioner of Police for responding promptly to the security concerns around Ajegwu. We believe that sustained police presence in the area will boost public confidence and provide a safer environment for commuters and residents.”

In appreciation of the police action, KENW said it had resolved to support the deployment by providing immediate accommodation for the personnel stationed at Ajegwu.

The statement added, “Kogi East Neighborhood Watch, in appreciation of this proactive measure, has resolved to encourage the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command, by providing immediate accommodation at Ajegwu for the deployed personnel.”

The group also expressed optimism that the deployment would yield positive results in securing the highway corridor.

“Kogi East Neighborhood Watch looks forward to the deployment producing positive results in terms of safety for commuters plying the highways within the corridor, without adverse security implications,” it said.

KENW further pledged to strengthen collaboration with the police and other security agencies through the provision of credible and timely intelligence.

“Kogi East Neighborhood Watch promises to support the deployment with credible, actionable and timely intelligence that can assist security agencies in preventing and responding effectively to criminal activities,” the statement said.

The organisation urged residents, commuters and other stakeholders in the area to cooperate with the security personnel and provide relevant information that could assist in sustaining peace and security.

It added that effective community-police partnership remained essential to tackling kidnapping and other forms of criminality, stressing that security was a collective responsibility.

“Kogi East Neighborhood Watch will continue to support legitimate security operations and encourage residents to remain vigilant, law-abiding and responsive to security concerns,” the group stated.
