As anger grows in Itsekiri Nation, following INEC's latest upload of units and wards on its website, as it relates to the controversial delineation in Warri South Local Government Area, former leader of Itsekiri graduates, Alero Naomi Tenumah, has stressed the need for Itsekiris to be focused and united at this critical moment.
Tenumah, posited that for too long, Itsekiri Nation, have been compelled to accept injustice in the name of peace, saying it's time to demand justice, fairness, equality and protection of the legitimate rights of Itsekiri Nation, through peaceful and lawful means.
She called on the federal government, human rights organisations and the International community, to pay attention to the concerns of Itsekiri people, to help Itsekiri Nation ensure their rights, communities and future are protected.
Tenumah, wrote in a terse statement, Saturday October 31: "We must be focused, united and determined at this critical moment. We know that life is not always fair, but what has happened to humanity, justice and equality? For too long, we have been compelled to accept injustice in the name of peace.
"Our peaceful nature and our status as a minority ethnic group should never become reasons for our legitimate concerns to be ignored. Is it a crime to be a minority in a country like Nigeria? Being a minority does not make us less Nigerian. It does not make our lives less valuable, our communities less important, or our rights less deserving of protection. We are not asking for violence.
" We are calling for justice, fairness, equality and the protection of our legitimate rights through peaceful and lawful means. We therefore call upon the Federal Government of Nigeria, human-rights organisations and the international community to pay attention to the concerns of the Itsekiri people and help ensure that our rights, communities and future are protected. We must speak with one voice.
" We must organise peacefully. We must document our concerns and present our case before the appropriate national and international institutions.
"Itsekiri, arise!
Stand united.
Stand peacefully.
Stand firmly for justice.
"We are a minority, but our rights are not minority rights they are human rights."
