Deltastate government is finalizing arrangements to launch the state ownedelectronic Media, Delta Broadcasting Service, DBS on the DSTV (Multi Choice)platform.
Thismuch was disclosed recently at Asaba, the state capital when the NationalPresident of Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Alhaji Mohammed Garba paid theState Commissioner for Information, Barr. Chike Ogeah a courtesy call as partof his nationwide tour.
Thecommissioner who was apparently responding to an appeal by the NUJ President onthe need to meet up the 2012 NBC deadline for all radio and television stationsin the county to digitalize their operations, noted that as part of the stategovernment’s plan to meet up with the yearnings of its viewers and listeners,arrangements are also in top gear to improve on the quality of programming inthe state electronic media. While promising that staffers of the stateelectronic and print media will be trained and retrained to meet up with thepresent challenges, Barr. Chike Ogeah tasked media practitioners to reportissues concerning the state in the most objective manner. Speaking earlier, theNational President of NUJ, Alhaji Mohammed Garba, enjoined the Delta Stategovernment to ensure that media practitioners in the state undergo continuoustraining to meet up with present realities. While appealing to the stategovernment to do more in terms of welfare of media practitioners in the state,the NUJ President tasked the state government to endeavour to meet up the NBCdeadline for all electronic media to be digitalized in the country.
