The attention of the National Association of Itsekiri Graduates (NAIG) has been drawn to a purported document released by the office of the Secretary to the Delta State Government tagged "Government Special Announcement".
In the said document, the Delta State Government intends to Remodel, Redesign, and beautify a park termed "Obahor Park" in Warri, Warri South L.G.A.
Our curiosity led to a preliminary investigation on the said Park since there have never been any park named, known, or recognized as Obahor Park in Warri. We have been reliably informed that it is the park known and referred to as the “Erejuwa play ground" that the Delta State Government has now erroneously referred to as "Obahor Park".
We wish to draw the attention of the Delta State Government as this error is too grave to be ignored.
His Majesty Erejuwa is one of the Monarchs that have ruled the over 500 years Warri Kingdom and it is a slight on the Itsekiri people/Warri Kingdom that a park named after His Majesty is to be remodeled with a strange name. The park itself is situated along "Lower Erejuwa" Road by Obahor Junction and not in Obahor as being all alleged in the Letter.
We wish to advise the Delta State Government not to do anything that can spark another round of ethnic crisis in Warri.
We hereby call on the Delta State Government to officially withdraw the said letter from the public and make necessary corrections as we won't allow this broad day manipulation to go any further than this
We also want to use this medium to warn the Delta State Government to henceforth stop any further illegal diversion of our 13% percent derivation fund for purposes not related to the welfare and benefits of Oil Communities in Delta State.
We wish to state categorically that we will use all legitimate means within our disposal to ensure that such illegal diversions do not occur again.
Signed:
President, NAIG
