Transition Committee Chairman of Warri South local government, Dr. Augustine Uroye says the on-going demolition
of illegal structures and caravans along major roads and streets in Warri is to make the local government more conducive for living and business.
While stressing that his administration has been creating awareness on the need for traders and other business owners to remove their structures along major roads as well as stop the display of their wares close to major roads, Dr. Uroye who was the immediate past Secretary to the local government warned that no individual or union is bigger than government, adding that anyone who attempts to frustrate government’s effort will face the wrath of the law.
The council boss, who was addressing members of Ndigbo Traders Association at the Warri South Council Secretariat in Warri, noted that his administration is determined to protect and alleviate the people’s sufferings as against the perception that the demolition exercise is to harm the people. According to him, if the traders’ wares are cleared off major roads and streets it will ease off traffic and increase business patronage.
He promised to collaborate with members of Ndigbo Traders Association in his resolve to improve the sanitary and security situation in Warri.
Chairman of Chairmen, Ndigbo Traders Association in Warri, Effurun and Udu local government areas, Nze Francis Onuora in his remark expressed reservation at the manner with which members of tyre lock Task Force are going about their assignment and appealed to the council chairman to intervene.
He pledged the Igbo traders’ commitment towards the payment of their revenues to the local government.
Vice Chairman of Warri South Local Government Transition Committee, Mr. Dafe Ikpuri and the Council’s Head of Personnel Management, Mr. James Kolo were in attendance at the meeting.
