The newly elected Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council, IPAC, Mr. Fred Obi has pledged to reposition the body so as to engage the government constructively on issues of governance, even as he called on Nigerians clamouring for restructuring to first think of how they can restructure themselves Our Delta North Correspondent reports.
Speaking to newsmen shortly after he was declared winner from the election that was adjudged the best in the State in terms of its credibility, Mr. Obi said he was impressed by the conduct of the party chairmen who displayed a very high sense of maturity through out the process of the election.
“It was a peaceful, free and fair election and I am impressed because I want to build a united IPAC in the State. A house that is divided against itself cannot stand. So we have to build the body so that we can be able to constructively engage the government at all level on issues of development”, he stated.
Speaking on the current agitations bothering on how to restructure the country, the IPAC Chairman said, “yes everybody is calling for restructuring of the country but I think we must start to restructure ourselves first. If we agree to restructure ourselves, the issue of restructuring the nation will be easy.”
He equally preached in strong condemnation, the monetization of Delta State politics and urged the electorate to be able to identify and vote for credible candidates that are genuinely interested on issue of development, even as he called on the various position of authority to start acting on the interest of the masses.
On his part, Mr. Christian Moses Abe, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Ifeanyi Okowa on Inter Party Affairs, said “the only thing constant in life is change. Around this time last year we had this election there was serious politicking that almost snowballed into crisis. I waded in preaching that just one year it will be over, today another executive has emerged. I went there as an observer, the election can be adjudged the best IPAC election so far conducted in the State in terms of transparent processes. We will work together to ensure that the dividends of democracy get to everyone. The new executive must avoid the mistake of the past and carry everyone along”.
