Delta State pensioners are demanding the where-about of theirN48 billion pre-pension contributions from Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, stressing that if he does not pay their gratuity he should re-instate them.
According to Mr. Ajueyitsi the sum is their contribution between 2007 and 2010 under the new pension scheme.
Speaking exclusively to Fresh Angle in Ovwian, Udu local government area, one of the pensioners, Mr. Ovwiroro Eric Ajueyitsi said there is no clear proof that the forty eight billion naira pre-pension is in a safe account, expressing fears that if the state government fails to pay their accumulated gratuity and pension arrears many of them will die and their labour may go in vain.
Mr. Ajueyitsi who said life is becoming unbearable, accused the state government of not showing concern about their plight. According to him,one of their colleagues (names withheld) recently slumped and died at Agbarho as a result of abject poverty.
Meanwhile, Delta State chapter of Nigeria Labour Congress on Tuesday January 8 locked its labour House in Asaba, denying the pensioner saccess from holding its meetings in the building.
There is palpable tension amongst local government workers in Delta State over the new pension scheme, as the 15% promised by the state government as monthly contribution is yet to be paid almost two years after the scheme commenced.
