The Movement for Emancipation of Kogi People has predicted mass failure for indigenes of Kogi State writing examination this year, owing to the carefree attitude of Kogi State Government on the general strike embarked upon by the organized labour, Our Kogi State Correspondent reports.
A statement released by the association in Lokoja, accused the Kogi State Government of abdicating the very responsibility of governance by treating issues concerning the welfare of the people with disdain.
According to the statement signed by the Chairman, Alhaji Yakubu Asipita and Secretary, Mr. Bodunrin Olufemi said teachers in Public Secondary Schools have been out of classrooms for many times as a result of government occasioned crisis.
They said students lost valuable learning time during the screening exercise embarked upon by the government as majority of teachers were at one time or the other in Lokoja trying to sort themselves out with the numerous screening committees of the government that have not yielded any positive result.
The group also noted that thousands of downtrodden people of the state are dying in the towns and villages due to lack of medical care as government hospitals have remained shut because of the strike action.
According to the group, “the government continued silence or refusal to engage the striking workers in any negotiation is a clear indication that government is sadistic and derive joy from the pains of the people”.
It therefore called on well-being Kogites such as traditional rulers, religious and political leaders to come out of their shell to condemn this incalculable damage the State government is causing to the educational and general state of the people.
The group urged the people of the State to embark on mass action against the State Government, if the government refuses to do the needful for Kogi State educational and medical facilities to be restored to normalcy.
"It is annoying and luck taken too far that a group of boys in a democracy ceased power and continued to torment the entire populace and our traditional rulers and religious leaders suddenly lost their voice" the statement added.
