Just In: DSC Rolling Mill to be commissioned in three weeks
Section of the Rolling Mill

All is now set for commissioning of the Rolling Mill of Premium Steel and Mines Limited, formerly called Delta Steel Company, Ovwian-Aladja in Delta State, just as the company has entered into agreement to ensure foolproof security of assets of the company.

The security agreement was coming in the wake of recent cases of vandalism of armored cables worth over N40million belonging to the company by suspected vandals which jettisoned earlier plans to commission the Rolling Mill in the first week of December 2017.

Addressing newsmen Wednesday December 13 shortly after a meeting between the company management and leaders of the Host communities to the company, General Manager of PSML, Engr. Victor German disclosed that the meeting with the community leaders was very fruitful as the Presidents’-General of Aladja, Ovwian, Orhuwhorun, Ekete and Ujevwu communities have all agreed to collaborate with the company for prompt delivery of its core objective of steel production and employment of qualified persons towards improved economic activities in the area.

Engr. German commended the host communities including the Udu Traditional Council, and other stakeholders for their determination to synergize with the company towards ending cases of vandalism and theft of company assets in recent times. He added that so much work was going on in the plant and that the rolling mill was ready for commissioning to be followed by other sectors of the plant in 2018.

He appealed to all stakeholders to continue to cooperate with Premium Steel to be able to deliver and make quality steel readily available to consumers, noting that the resuscitation plan for the plant was going on in phases and that the first section to be put into use would be the rolling mill, which, he said would be commissioned in three weeks’ time for production to commence.

In his remarks, Manager, Community Relations to PSML, Hon. Johnbull Asun, disclosed that there was organized syndicate of criminals who were hell bent on frustrating efforts of Premium Steel to get the company back on her feet, adding that the security threats around the company were manifestation of the deviousness of corporate enemies at work.

He added that the engagement of the locals to boost the security concern of the company was a strategy towards ending the menace of the vandals as details of the security arrangement with the host communities was being perfected and would be put into use soon.

‘’We are adopting the former DSC arrangement of making our security officials to be well remunerated, accommodated in staff quarters and engaged on full time basis for efficient service delivery’’, he added.
