Job Creation: Okowa unveils Garri produced by Delta Government trainees

Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa has unveiled made-in-Delta Garri produced and packaged by trainees of his administration’s skills’ acquisition programmes.

 

Our Senior Correspondent reports that Dr. Okowa unveiled the packaged products Thursday January 24 at the event centre, Asaba, during Job Creation Exhibition organized by the Chief Job Creation Office.

 

The Governor charged 1,148 newly inducted Skills’ Training & Entrepreneurship Programme, STEP, Youth Agricultural Entrepreneurs Programme, YAGEP and Graduates’ Employment Programme, GEEP, to be focused and committed to learning as well as applying same skills acquired to become employers of labour.

 

He reassured Deltans that if given the mandate for a second term, he will create more jobs, create access to fund and increase Technical Colleges from 6 to 25, making it one per local government across the state. 

 

Dr. Okowa said he was strengthened, “seeing the trainees succeeding”, assuring that more empowerment will come to them as “they return me back into office in March 2 election”.

 

According to Dr. Okowa, Delta State is set to become major grower of rice through YAGEP, saying Delta is an Agricultural State.

 

He enjoined Deltans and others to patronize goods manufactured by the STEP, YAGEP and GEEP entrepreneurs, in order to encourage their new businesses.

 

Also speaking, the Chief Job Creation Officer, Prof. Eric Eboh, revealed that the state government through their office have trained as well as established twenty thousand entrepreneurs and created more than hundred thousand jobs.

 

Prof. Eboh further opined that Delta State has grown economically, making “it investment destination for people across the country”.

 

Fresh Angle International can report that highpoint of the event was exhibition by the trainees cum entrepreneurs at the Cenotaph, Asaba.

 

The exhibition featured showcasing of fish ponds, electrical switches/appliances, ICT, event management, Agric processing as well as tilling, produced by the trainees.
