The initiators of Chris Ikomi Annual Essay Competition, NNPC/Chevron Joint Venture, have assured that they will continue to encourage students' interest in the study of English Language and its related subjects, in order to enhance their performance.
The General Manager, Policy, Government and Public Affairs, Chevron Nigeria Limited, Mr. Esimaje Brikinn gave the assurance Thursday January 24 at Asaba, Delta State capital during this year's Chris Ikomi Essay Competition for Secondary Schools held at Olorogun Felix Ibru Secretariat in partnership with Delta State Ministry of Education.
Mr. Brikinn who was represented by Mr. Kayode Adeboye, said the 2019 edition of Chris Ikomi Annual Essay Competition is the 17th in the series, noting that the competition is organized in memory of late Chris Ikomi, who was one of their employees, just as he expressed Chevron’s gratitude to the family of late Chris Ikomi for their support on the project.
He noted that 102 students have benefitted from the programme, adding that the purpose of the competition is being met and it has continue to grow with more schools participating.
According to him, over 3,400 students across the 25 Local Government Areas in Delta State entered for this year’s competition with the theme "Nigeria of My Dream".
Delta State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Barr. Chiedu Ebie, remarked "education is an effective weapon and a potent instrument for socio-political, economic, technological development and advancement of any society"
Barr. Ebie who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Comrade Samuel Dieteke, commended NNPC/Chevron Joint Venture for sustaining the competition and called on others to emulate the JV partners towards the development of education in Delta State.

Fresh Angle International can report that a JSS 3 male student of St. Brendan Catholic College, Bomadi, Douye Ebenezer took the first position, while a JSS 3 female student of St. Gregory College, Obinomba, Ukwuani Local Government Area, Abamba Efezino emerged second, leaving Nnah Amarachukwu Fedora, a JSS 3 female of Our Lady Nigeria Secondary School , Oghara, Ethiope West Local Government Area, with the third position in the Junior Secondary School category.
In the Senior Secondary School category, Udezue Favour, SS 2 female student of Our Saviour Secondary School, Sapele Local Government Area came first and Edemoye Oghenefejiro, SS 3 male student of Stella Maris Secondary Ashaka, Ndokwa East, won the second position with Ifeanyi Elijah Dumkelechi, SS 2 male student of Peniel Academy, Boji Boji Owa Ika North East emerging second runner-up.
High point of the competition was presentation of different categories of award to winners from Junior and Senior Secondary schools’ category.
The winners thanked NNPC/Chevron Joint Venture for giving them the opportunity to showcase their academic skills, promised to remain focused and take their studies seriously.
