Three houses and three stores used for keeping wares were on Saturday May 4 razed dawn at 22 Bowen Avenue by Mciver Market in Warri, Delta State, when a widow with four children, including a 9 – month old baby noticed that the firewood with which she was cooking at her kitchen caught fire and consumed the kitchen.
Attempts to put off the fire which stated at about 11:30am by the widow was unsuccessful and the raging fire immediately spread to the three houses and shops before fire servicemen arrived the scene.
One of the victims, a man identified simply as Orezi lost two hundred and fifty thousand naira (N250, 000.00) to the inferno. The money was given to him by his church to purchase materials for the development of the church.
Fresh Angle gathered that rather than cry for properties burnt, the widow allegedly cried profusely for her soup which was burnt and sympathizers had to contribute some money for her on the spot.
It was reliably gathered that all the shops and houses burnt were wooden structures except for the one where the man who lost N250, 000.00 lived in.
