Indications are rife that Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan may swear-in members of the new Delta State Independent Electoral Commission, DSIEC, Tuesday May 14 at Asaba, Delta State capital, Fresh Angle has gathered.
The speculation is coming after Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan hosted some South-South and South-East Governors at Asaba over the weekend.
The governor’s appearance at Asaba weekend came as a shock to some Deltans after rumours went into town that he is not likely to arrive the state soon as a result of purported ill-health.
Fresh Angle can report that the imminent inauguration of the new board of DSIEC which only recently underwent screening by the Delta State House of Assembly after long drawn controversy over its membership is expected to revive political activities at the local government level across the state.
Investigations reveal that when inaugurated the new board of DSIEC will set out a 3-month time table for local government elections as stipulated in the state edict.
It’s been over two years since the last set of democratically elected chairmen and councillors’ tenure expired in the state and Transition Committees were only sworn-in November 2012 with a six month mandate expected to terminate April 2013, but there are no clear indications that members of the Transition Committees will step down until after the local government polls.
But for two local government councils, Heads of Personnel Management ran 23 of the 25 local government councils in the state for over a year and investigations has shown that since the expiration of the last democratic dispensation at the local government level, little or no visible infrastructural development has been recorded in local councils in Delta State.
