The transition Committee Chairman of Warri South Local Government, Dr. Augustine Uroye has adviced stakeholders involved in agriculture in Warri to take the FADAMA 3 Project seriously, stressing that the programme will enhance the Delta State goal of Delta beyond Oil.
Dr. Uroye gave the advice at the sensitization workshop for farmers organized by FADAMA Coordinators at Warri South Council’s Sub-Secretariat in Warri.
The Warri Council boss also assured the state coordinators of FADAMA 3 Project of the council’s cooperation in its quest at ensuring the success of the programme in the area.
Speaking earlier, the State Project Coordinator of FADAMA 3 Project, Mr. Abanum Anthony, explained that in order for FADAMA 3 Project to succeed at the grassroots, the local government councils must establish local FADAMA desk committee which should comprise of 12 members.
Mr. Abanum Anthony who was represented by the state Technical Officer, Mr. Ashoro Collins said that the committee should have sub-committees whose responsibilities will be to monitor FADAMA projects in their areas with a view to ensuring that funds for the programme are properly utilized.
Mr. Ashoro Collins disclosed that the FADAMA 3 Project requires counterpart funding hence the need for each local government to pay two million naira annually for five years in other to ensure that farmers within each local government get the desired benefits. He said any local government that does not pay its two million naira counterpart funding does not have the interest of FADAMA 3 Project at heart.
On her part, the Community Development Officer of FADAMA 3 Project, Mrs. Kayode Judith who spoke on “ group formation registration”, described the programme as gender sensitive.
Engr. Anthony Onwuememe who spoke on “institutional arrangement” was among other FADAMA 3 project officers who spoke at the sensitization workshop.
