Exclusive: How Chevron contractor vessel capsized

Details are still emerging of how Chevron contractor vessel capsized 30 kilometres off the Escravos river in Warri South-West local government area Sunday May 26, leaving all 12 crew members still missing as at 1pm Tuesday May 28 when this report was filed.

Fresh Angle gathered from a source in Escravos, Chevron yard that the vessel which was pulling off a barge suddenly had the metal string which connected the barge cut off as a result of heavy wind and rain that fell that day.  Feelers say the sudden cut off from the barge coupled with the intense force made the vessel capsized and all the crew members, including the captain sunk with the vessel.

Rescue efforts by the contracting firm, divers from Chevron and other related firms to locate the crew members as at press time has been unsuccessful.  Report says though the vessel has been located deep under the water, all possible access to the capsized vessel are reportedly blocked, even as unconfirmed report suggests that oxygen has been connected to the vessel with a view to providing artificial breadth to the victims should they still be alive.

Already members of Egbe family of Orugbo in Warri South local government are apprehensive and praying for the survival of one of their eldest sons who is on-board the vessel.

A member of the Egbe family who was apparently worried by the development told Fresh Angle that the 12 crew members were sleeping after work when the unfortunate incident occurred.
