The Delta State House of Assembly Chief Whip and member representing Warri South 1 Constituency, Hon. Omawumi Beatrice Udoh has ordered the stoppage of work at the Esisi bridge section of the Warri-Effurun Water project following the laying of pipes at the pedestrian lane along the bridge.
Hon. Udoh, former Chairman, House Committee on Environment in the State House of Assembly handed down the order as part of her over-sight function following complains by youths in the community on the wrong engineering layout and attitude of the firm’s Site Engineer.
The lawmaker who was visibly angry with the contracting firm, AG GOLD TRUST/ NASTON JV wondered the rationale behind the laying of pipes for the water project along the bridge walkway by the contractor and vowed to petition the contractor.
The Chairman of Okere Community Youth, Mr. Joseph Ufuoma Ugburo told newsmen that attempt to draw the Site Engineer’s attention to the anomaly was rebuffed by officials of the contracting firm, while an unidentified army personnel on duty allegedly molested him for expressing his reservation about the poor engineering layout.
An official of AG GOLDTRUST/NASTON JV who claimed to be a driver with the company stated that he was not competent to speak to press but promised to relay the order stopping work on the site to the company’s management.
As at the time of this report the company’s staff on ground had already vacated the site following the directive.
