Controversy trails death of UNIBEN medical student



Controversy is raging in Benin City, Edo State over the death of a medical student of University of Benin, Ibrahim Momodu who was allegedly shot dead by a female police DPO.

Our Benin City Correspondent reports that while Ibrahim’s family is accusing the police in Benin of killing their son, the Edo State Police Command through its PPRO, Mr Eguavoen said in a statement that the medical student was shot while trying to shoot at the police patrol van at  late night using a motorbike.

The police public relations officer paraded one double barrel, seven cartridges, two handsets and one unregistered Blink motorcycle as items seized from Ibrahim.

Ibrahim’s family however in their testimony said their son had an argument with a female cops which led to his brutal killing.

In his reaction, the Edo State Police Commissioner, Foluso Adebanjo pleaded with the family of Ibrahim Momodu to remain calm, adding that Ibrahim’s body has been exhumed for autopsy to ascertain the actual cause of his death.

The CP said the female police officer has been redeployed, even as he added that the ban on motorbike from 7PM in Benin City is still in force.
