Warri Crises Update: Ijaw raze down 5 more Itsekiri communities

Ijaw ethnic militias Tuesday evening (July2nd, 2013 ) burnt down five more Itsekiri communities after razing down three others: Gbokoda,Ajamitan and Udo in the early hours of same day, Fresh Angle has authoritatively gathered.

The five new communities razed down without resistance are Obaghoro, Ebrohimi, Eghoro, Ureju and Japa Tie.

Fresh Angle  learnt that army personnel at the entrance of  Gbokoda, one of the first communities burnt yesterday allegedly told some Itsekiri leaders that there was no order to repel the renewed onslaught which appears to be politically motivated, even though there are feelers that the sharing of a largesse may have triggered the fresh violence.

Investigation reveals that apart from the three corps that were taken to Sapele from Koko that were deposited in a mortuary by a prominent Itsekiri youth activist  (name withheld ) two persons, an Itsekiri by the name Kwara  and an Urhobo were  allegedly killed at Eghoro when the Ijaw militants struck and an Itsekiri woman was severely injured.

Fresh Angle gathered that the two male fresh casualties were sew millers working for Eghoro community trust chairman. Only one building was reportedly razed in Eghoro  community, while  the corps of the two men were still laying flat at the community as security operatives stopped movement at the Benin River waterways hence stopping people from the community from carrying the corps of the two dead men.

Fresh Angle  can also report that since the end of the protracted Warri crises in 2003, the only visible modern buildings erected in the affected Benin River Itsekiri communities alongside those in Warri  South-West are those constructed by Chevron sponsored Itsekiri Oil and Gas Producing /Impacted Communities Development Committee ,IRDC .

Meanwhile there is an unusual patrol of security operatives in Warri since the early hours of Wednesday July 3. Anxiety in Warri,  particularly among Itsekiris is mounting as a result of the renewed attack which is reminiscent of the pattern Ijaw militants took when they first launched  their onslaught in the late 90s.
