Itsekiri students in tertiary institutions across Nigeria and in the Diaspora under the auspices of National Association of Itsekiri Students, NAIS has condemned what they described as unprovoked attacks and killing of innocent Itsekiris as well as destruction of their communities in Warri North local government.
The Itsekiri students who accused “some blood thirsty Ijaw youths from Egbema” of being responsible for the fresh attacks which left no less than 8 persons confirmed dead and pockets of others injured described the action as “an act of terrorism just like the Boko Haram” onslaught.
In an electronic mail sent to Fresh Angle Monday July 8, NAIS which posited that the political reasons given by “the Ijaws is totally unacceptable” because those living in the communities destroyed are not in the political class, accused the military of being accomplice in the fresh onslaught because “two military gun boats were less than 200 meters to the villages destroyed.”
The statement from NAIS signed by its President and Secretary General, Akatakpo Omatseye & Omagbe Jeffery respectively is sequel to a communiqué issued at the end of an emergency congress held at Agbeje Primary School in Ugbuwangue, Warri, Delta State Saturday July 6. The statement “vowed to take on anyone either Itsekiri or not whose action is anti-Itsekiri.”
While expressing disappointment on the inability of Itsekiri leaders to take a firm stand on the attacks, NAIS which opined that the fresh attacks make the amnesty programme questionable, called on the federal, state and Warri North local governments to immediately send relief materials to the displaced persons in the affected communities.
