The little girldisclosed that having listened to sermon by their pastor’s wife, urgingchildren not to hide anything from their parents, decided to tell her motherabout the issue.
Others who testified before the court included the father and mother of thevictim, a police officer and the police doctor who examined the little girl andissued a medical report to that effect.
In his defense, the convict said there was standing disagreement between himselfand the little girl’s parent after he started paying his house rent directlyinto the girl-father’s sister’s account
instead of paying the rent to the girl’s father.
Delivering judgment, Chief Magistrate Peter Edo Asemota held that there was noevidence before the court to show that quarrel existed between the girl’sfather and the convict as a result of rent payment to the victim father’ssister.
The court also held that the alleged demand of twenty two thousand naira toconduct laboratory test and treatment of the little girl arose only after thevictim had told her mother about what had been going on between her and theconvict which brought about the quarrel.
The court maintained that the convict was desperately looking for ways topervert justice with his many contradictory lies and therefore, deserve punishment.
Chief Magistrate Asemota finally stated that “there are problems of unwantedpregnancies here and there as well as the likelihood of victims being affectedwith deadly and sometimes incurable disease such as AIDS /HIV. This is why thecourt must take serious stand against the crime,” he accordingly sentenced theconvict to 2 years imprisonment with hard labour.
