27-year old remanded in prison over forceful collection of fifteen thousand naira

For allegedly demanding and collecting fifteen thousand naira with menace, one 27-year old Ikponmwosa Omorogbe has been remanded in prison custody on the orders of Chief Magistrate Francis Idiake presiding over an Evbuoriaria Magistrate Court sitting in Benin City, Edo State.  

Ikponmwosa Omorogbe was alleged to have on 19th and 20th May 2013, threatened to burn down a house at 3 Ehimwenma street, Benin City, upon failure by one Lucky Agbonavbare, said to be his girl-friend to pay the money he claimed she collected from him when they were dating.

Led in evidence by the prosecutor, Aigbedion Obakpolor (Inspector), Agbonavbare said it was due to the threat that he parted with the sum of eleven thousand naira on 19th May and another sum of four thousand totaling fifteen thousand naira.

Defense counsel, Sophia Okojie, said the witness stressed that she did not pay the money in other for the accused person to quit the relationship with his daughter.

The case was adjourned to a later date for further hearing.
