Teachers under the umbrella of Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT Warri South Chapter have appealed to Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa to as a matter of urgency stop the delay currently experienced by retired teachers in getting their pensions and other benefits after 35years of meritorious service.

Fresh Angle International can report that the appeal was made Thursday April 4 by Chairman of NUT, Warri South Local Government, Comrade Ishmael Ukuejewa at the union secretariat in Warri during a Solemn Assembly organized by the teachers’ union as part of activities to thank God for the lives of teachers in Warri South, Delta State as well as Nigeria at large.

According to Ukuejewa, some teachers die as a result of inadequate care by government, calling on Delta State Government to avoid making their educational policy anti-teachers.

He enjoined the state government to allow teachers who are qualified in primary schools to get to level 17 as it is in other sector or states.

In a brief message, a renowned teacher, Rev. S.E. Ede said God was not happy with government on how they handle teachers’ welfare, whether serving or retired.

The cleric frowned at the situation where teachers who are retired, will have to wait for between 4 to 5 years before government will address issues of their welfare such as pensions and gratuity, thus leading to major cause of teachers’ death.

Our Senior Correspondent reports that Rev. Ede took his text from 2 Chronicle 7:14, even as prayers were offered for better life, good health as well as sustenance of unity amongst teachers in Nigeria.
