Education, most powerful weapon to change the world- Otomi

Principal of Nana Model College Warri, Mrs. Mofe .E. Otomi, says, “education is the most powerful weapon that can be used to change the world and it must be qualitative to develop and improve the lives of the citizens”, adding that education produces learners who are well grounded, articulated and innovative.

She made the assertion Friday July 5, at Nana Model College, Warri, during the 2019 graduation ceremony of SS3 students of the school and launching of Nanalite Magazine.

 

While noting that secondary education is, “to train listeners to build a strong valve system, which will form the foundation for a balanced academic structure”, Mrs. Otomi, mentioned successes of the school in the past few years to include launching of the magazine, so as to create a platform where learners can have a voice and horn their talents through writing.

 

The educationist thanked the former State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Barr. Chiedu Ebie, teachers and learners, for making the magazine a reality through their support and encouragement.

 

Mrs. Otomi, enjoined the out-going students to be good ambassadors of Nana Model College and the Nation at large.

 

The Immediate past Executive Chairman, Delta State Post Primary Education Board, Chief (Mrs.) Christiana Etaluku, commended Mrs. Otomi for her benevolence in taking the school to higher level, saying, “Nana College is very special to me, because I had my teaching career here in the early 80s”.

 

Chief Etaluku who noted that, “this is not the time to sit at home and be pressing phones, but to put more efforts”, challenged up-coming principals to contribute their quarter to the development of students, who are the leaders of tomorrow.

 

The out-going Senior Prefect of Nana Model College, Miss Amu Deborah, said, “the school is embodiment of knowledge and has taught me crucial life lessons that I will never forget. I have been impacted with irreplaceable knowledge and provided with the environment to meet friends of reputable character that I considers as family”.

 

Miss Amu, averred that the principal has been a role model and a mother, adding, “ I will not forget the advice, laughter, encouragement and the scolding you gave to correct me and I promise to take it with me as I go forward in my life journey”.

 

She appreciated all teaching and non-teaching staff of the institution for the love and support shown to her and classmates.    

 

Our Correspondent reports that the current senior prefect of Nana Model College, Okiodafe Grantson, thanked the principal and vice principal of the school for making the occasion a fruitful one.

 

Provost of College of Education, Warri, Prof. (Mrs.) Mary Edema, Chief Roland Omagbemi, who represented the Olu of Warri, Ogiame Ikenwoli and Chairman of Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, Warri South Chapter, Comrade Ishmael Ikuejawa, were among dignitaries that graced the ceremony.
