Okowa's Policy on Technical Education: A Consideration for Youth Training Centre, Egbokodo
Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa

Announcement by the Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa led Delta State Government of plans to establish technical colleges in each local government area across the State, where non exists, is indeed cheering to say the least.

Resolve by the administration to establish 19 technical colleges, was first disclosed by Governor Okowa Thursday June 6 at Asaba, during" the 2019 media appreciation meeting".

The governor added bite to the new policy when portfolio was assigned to Mrs. Gbubemi Ikolo as Commissioner for Technical and Vocational Education.
This was swiftly followed with a statement released by Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Chiedu Ebie, where he noted that the essence of the new policy was to" encourage and motivate the present and future generation of Deltans to compete with their peers on the world stage, where science, technology and innovation, provide the framework for living".

The statement credited to scribe of the state government, also explained that technical colleges would be established in local government areas, where non exists.

The new direction by the state government is even more heartwarming to people of Warri South Local Government Area and Itsekiris as a whole for two basic reasons; pioneer commissioner of the newly created Ministry of Technical and Vocational Education, Mrs. Gbubemi Ikolo, is a daughter of the soil and the Youth Training Centre, Egbokodo in Warri South Local Government Area, is most suitable for a world class technical and vocational institution.

The thrust of this editorial advocacy is anchored on the need for the Okowa administration through the newly created Ministry of Technical and Vocational Education to provide adequate and qualified manpower as well as funding for the Youth Training Centre, Egbokodo in Warri, to enable the centre with its state-of- the- art technical and vocational facilities ( that can hardly be found in tertiary institutions in Nigeria) to serve as post secondary school institution for graduands of the soon-to-be established/ existing technical colleges in the State.
