The renovated Iye Erejuwa I Hall


A town hall belonging to Princess Iye Esilokun, daughter ofErejuwa I, the late Olu of Warri, has been renovated and handed over to theleadership of Deghele community by a socio-cultural group, Agura Oma Chaninomi.

The hall which is situated in Ode-Itsekiri, the ancestralhome of Itsekiris in Warri South local government area of Delta Statewas destroyed during the Warri crisis.

The National Secretary of AguraOma Chaninomi of Deghele, Hon. Isaac Tosan Wilkie who spoke to newsmenshortly after the handing over ceremony Saturday December 17, explained thatthey decided to renovate the hall to “revive the heritage” of the late Warrimonarch’s daughter.

Hon. Wilkie who is a former Vice Chairman of Warri Northlocal government noted that renovation of the hall which cost the group N2.5million through direct labour is afollow up of similar efforts at Deghele community.

The National President of AguraOma Chaninomi, Mr. Michael Ogbiten Temisanren earlier in his remark,explained that the group is committed to the development of Deghele inparticular and Warri kingdom in general.

The Vice President General of Deghele Community, Mr. SunnyAtumu who received the key to the hall on behalf of Deghele communityleadership, commended Agura Oma Chaninomifor their effort, noting that if others emulate the initiative it wouldencourage people to come home.

Highpoint of the ceremony was the handing over of key to theleadership of Deghele community by the Assistant Secretary of Agura Oma Chaninomi, Madam Rebecca Didenas well as the presentation of award of excellence to Agura Oma Chaninomi by the executive of Iye Descendants’ Union.
