Sure –P boss calls for partnership with firms on internship scheme

Chairman of the Subsidy Reinvestment and Empowerment Programme, SURE- P, Dr. Christopher Kolade, has appealed to firms and industries in Delta State, particularly in Warri to partner with SURE- P Graduate Internship Scheme of the federal government  by accommodating graduate interns in their organization in other for the nation to attain the needed transformation it deserves.

Dr. Kolade who was represented by Mr. Adelani Ashamu made the appeal at the sensitization session for firms organized by the Federal Ministry of Finance (SURE- P Unit) in conjunction with the Continental and Leadership Business School at the P. T.I Conference Centre, Effurun, Delta State.

SUR- P Graduate Internship Scheme, GIS, Head of Operations, Mr. Akubo Adegbe in his remark said without contributions from other stakeholders, the graduate Internship Scheme may not succeed even if the federal government plays its role.

According to him, part of the objectives of the graduate internship scheme is to reduce social crisis and vulnerability of unemployed graduates, provide a safe net and income supplement for unemployed graduates, enhance the employability of at- least 50,000 unemployed graduates in the 36 states of the federation, including the FCT by improving their skills’ base as well as build manpower base towards attaining national development.

Mr. Adegbe who noted that the GIS is being implemented by a project implementation unit in the Federal Ministry of Finance said employment under GIS scheme is short  term, stressing that it is a one year programme.

He explained that the criterion for selection of graduates into the programme is that they must be holders of Higher National Diploma (HND) or University Degree and applicants must have completed the mandatory one year NYSC or show proof of NYSC exemption certificate.

The graduates are also expected to have valid identity card, show commitment for a period of one year, submit a copy of his/ her curriculum vitae online and must not be more than 40 years.

He added that thereafter, interns will be placed in firms/ organizations/ institutions that express their willingness to participate in the GIS, noting that such firms must be fully registered with the Corporate  Affairs Commission, CAC, show proof of VAT and Tax Clearance Certificate among others.

He stressed that the selection of interns is by first come, first serve bases, while beneficiaries will be paid a monthly stipend of twenty five thousand naira.
