Delta State governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan says his administration decided to commence the execution of the 12 approved junction improvement works in Asaba, Warri and Effurun at the popular Enerhen junction in Effurun because of the need to tackle the security challenge in the area, stressing that the junction was a breeding place for criminals and pick pockets.

Dr. Uduaghan stated this Saturday September 28 in Effurun, Delta State during the commissioning of the junction improvement works project at Enerhen junction, Enerhen road and Enerhen Motel junction.

The governor who disclosed that contract have been approved for the construction of a fly-over at Airport junction in Effurun, noting that the contractor would soon be mobilized to site, added that junctions such as Jakpa, Hausa Quarters and Cemetery will soon be given facelift to enhance free flow of traffic as part of the urban renewal strategy of his administration.

He enjoined residents and traders of Enerhen to keep the newly constructed Enerhen junction in Uvwie local government clean.

In an address, the Delta State Commissioner for Special Duties, Special Infrastructure, Dame Orezi Esievo explained that the main objective of the works at the selected 12 junctions in Asaba, Warri and Effurun is to decongest them as well as promote free flow of traffic thus enhancing economic and social activities in the state.

According to the Commissioner, the popular Enerhen junction was deliberately selected by the state governor as the pilot project “because it was easily the most challenging in terms of congestion and hardship experienced by the residents as a result of incessant traffic jams and other difficulties.”

While noting that there were few dissenting voices and even litigation by some residents of Enerhen against the contractor and the state government in the course of the construction work, Dame Esievo averred that the Enerhen junction, Enerhen road as well as Enerhen Motel junction were completed in record time because of the interest, support and personal supervision of the state governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan.
