An attempt by unspecified number of gunmen to rob a woman at the front of Union Bank close to Warri Main Market along Warri- Sapele road in Warri few minutes past 11:00 am today was foiled by a policeman attached to First Bank directly opposite Union Bank, Fresh Angle can exclusively report.
An eye witness told Fresh Angle on phone that the woman was tailed by the armed robbers from Main Market branch of Eco Bank to Union Bank, where she went to withdraw unspecified sum of money with a view to depositing same in Union Bank before the gunmen struck. Both Banks are within a 200 metres distance.
Reports say the gallant mobile policeman on sighting the robbers opened fire on them, but the robbers shot him on one of his laps and he fell down. Attempt by the robbers to collect the policeman’s AK 47 riffle thinking he was dead met a stiff resistance, as the gallant policeman immediately got up again and opened fire on the armed men, hitting one of the robbers, but the armed gang managed to escape with their member who was hit by the policeman’s bullet. They also went away with an almost empty bag of the woman who they tailed to Union Bank.
Though report was still sketchy as at press time, Our Source claimed the woman already succeeded in depositing the money she went to collect from Eco Bank at Union Bank before the gunmen struck.
As at the time of filing this report, the gallant mobile policeman was being rushed to an undisclosed hospital in Warri for medical attention.
