Fire renders scores of residents homeless in Delta Community
The remains of the building gutted down by the fire

Residents of No 37 in Agbasa Community in Warri South Local Government Area, Delta State were thrown into mourning late hours of yesterday as the entire building which houses over fifty people was gutted by fire, Fresh Angle International reports.

Although no life was lost but property worth millions of naira was destroyed by the fire as it took the residents by surprise and all efforts to extinguish the fire proved abortive.

Our Correspondent reports that amidst tears, one of the victims who identified herself as Olivia Gbenije said she was at home eating when she heard an alarm of fire raised and she ran outside to discover that it was their building, adding that, many people came out to join them to use water to put out the fire, but before they could put it out, it has burst into the roof and the entire building was on fire.

Gbenije added that she does not know the exact room the fire started from, but is obvious that it started from one of the rooms whose occupant was not at home and failed to switch off one of the electrical appliances.  She said, “all our belongings are lost in the fire and appealed to the State Government, Corporate Organizations including religious organizations as well as other good Nigerians to come to their aid”.

The razed down building by the fire

Commenting on the fire incident, Hon. Pius Eghagha who was surprised at the level of destruction by the fire said it is quite sympathetic that the victims lost properties worth millions of naira at this time of economic recession and therefore appealed to House of Assembly members representing the constituency, Delta State Government, Corporate organizations, and well meaning Nigerians to come to their aid to ameliorate their sufferings  just as he advised people to always switch off their electrical appliances when leaving home to avoid such fire incidence.
