Worried by reported attacks on crude oil and gas lines by militants as well as renewed threats to launch more attacks, the Chairman of Warri South-West Local Government Area in Delta State, Hon. George Ekpemupolo has called on people of the Local Government Area and Delta State in general to join hands with the Federal Government to stop the ills of vandalism as well as illegal oil bunkering.
The Warri South- West Council Boss who gave the advice after similar calls in the past, noted that apart from the apparent negative impact pipeline vandalism and crude oil theft have on the economy of the country at large, Delta State and Warri South-West Local Government Area in particular, the activities of the vandals pose environmental and security threat to the lives as well as properties of the communities hosting the International Oil and Gas Companies, IOCs.
Hon. George Ekpemupolo appealed to community and youth leaders in the IOCs’ host communities to guard against hoodlums coming into their communities to unleash attacks on critical oil and gas installations, stressing that it pollutes aquatic life which in-turn affects the socio-economic lives of the people.
