Exposed: Omo-Agege/Ogboru faction plots to scuttle today’s Delta APC congress

The Senator Ovie Omo-Agege/Chief Great Ogboru faction of the Delta State Chapter of All Progressives Congress, APC has been alleged to have concluded plans to scuttle the APC National Working Committee approved Delta Congress slated for today, Monday May 21 at the College of Education (Technical), Asaba, the State capital.

A dependable sources told our correspondent that part of the plot is to cause confusion using thugs believed to be loyal to the faction  held its parallel congress on Saturday May 19 and have been kept in state capital to since then to unleashed terror immediately the congress is to commence.

It was further gathered that the thugs had be provided security cover among the security personnel to be deployed to the venue particularly from the State Police Command in a move similar to the stealing of the Mace of the Senate some weeks back.

Recall that Ogboru/Omo-Agege group which includes Mrs Mariam Ali, Chief Frank Kokori and A S Mene had on Saturday conducted a parallel congress despite the postponement of the exercise by NWC owing to allegation of inducement.

Rather than hold the congress at the approved venue (College of Education), the parallel congress was held and conducted by the removed Senator Gbenga Obadara-led Delta State Congress Committee at St. Mulumba College in Okpanam near Asaba under tight security.

It was further gathered that the  Delta State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Muhammad Mustafa was avoiding the leaders from the Emerhor camp, refusing to take there calls or take any proactive steps to address the threat, even when the APC NWC had written to him on the rescheduled state Congress.

A source close to one of the leaders, quoted the CP to have said when contacted on phone, "which other Congress are you talking about, I thought the Congress held on Saturday"?

A security source who pleaded anonymity confirmed the development to newsmen late Sunday, May 20 in Asaba.

The security source noted that State Police Commissioner has been given a marching order to ensure that the exercise is not peaceful in a move to give the Senator Omo-Agege faction advantage over the Olorogun O’tega Emerhor which enjoys the blessing of the John Odigie-Oyegun-led NWC.

A top member of the Omo-Agege/Ogboru faction further disclosed that some youth leaders in the Emerhor camp have been penciled down to be arrested on frivolous charges. Among those alleged to been penciled down for arrest Senior Aide to NDDC Executive Director of Projects, Mr. Samuel Adjogbe.

“Today (Monday’s) congress could be bloody based on plot by the other faction to disrupt the exercise. The police boss held series of meeting with leaders of the faction to use thugs to scatter the congress. The thugs will be working with security men particularly the police to cause tension and unrest. The intention is to ensure that no any other congress holds in Delta State. As we speak, the Delta State Police Commissioner is even skeptical about giving today’s congress required protection. Some youth leaders of the party are also being targeted for arrest. Some of us have been assigned our duties. From indications, the directive is from above”, the senior police officer disclosed to our correspondent late Sunday night.

It was gathered that the Emerhor faction which has a former speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Engr. (Barr.) Victor Ochei, Prof Pat Utomi, Chief Hyacinth Enuha and other prominent leaders of the party on its fold, are already aware of the development.

Despite the move, a leader of the Emerhor faction who does not want to be disclosed, said they are going ahead with congress, saying it was the only recognized congress in the state.

The congress is to be conducted by Eugene Odoh-led committee which has John Clark-Dabwan as secretary.

Efforts to speak with Delta State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Muhammad Mustafa, proved abortive as repeated calls to his telephone were declined.
