Breaking: Bridge collapses in Bayelsa
The collapsed Elebele Community Bridge, connecting Emeya to Othueke

Feelers reaching Fresh Angle International, say Elebele Community Bridge, connecting Emeya to Othueke in Bayelsa State, collapsed this morning, Thursday September 5.

Though details were still sketchy as at the time of this report, it was alleged that the bridge collapsed with a full trailer load of mixed ‘sandcrete’ belonging to Federal Road Maintenance Agency, FERMA.

Meanwhile, a community leader at Isale-Sabo in Oyo town, Alhaji Waheed Ishola Bulah, has raised alarm over the worsening Isale-Sabo Road and one of the bridges that link Isale-Sabo with other communities in Oyo town, warning that if urgent measures are not taken to rehabilitate the road/bridge, Isale-Sabo community would be cut off from the ancient town of Oyo.

Alhaji Bulah raised the alarm Wednesday September 4, during an exclusively chat with Our Oyo State Correspondent at Isale-Sabo in Oyo town.

He said the road has been in bad shape for the past five years and nothing had been done to fix it.

“We have written several letters to Atiba Local Government Authority, to point their attention to the said road and for them to take necessary step by fixing it before it gets worse. This place is one of the commercial centers in Oyo town, a lot of people that are involved in one business or the other, come to Sabo everyday to transact their business. It is this bad road they ply”, the community leader explained.

According to Alhaji Bulah, one of the bridges that link Isale-Sabo with other communities in Oyo town is about to collapse.

“It’s been a nightmare for us to live in this kind of society that lacks basic social amenities that will make life less cumbersome for the inhabitants. Whoever will come in as the caretaker or elected council chairman should take the issue of the road and bridge as his top priority”, he stressed.
