Sanitation Authority prosecute 31 offenders

The Controller of Waste Management in the Bayelsa State Environmental Sanitation Authority, Mr.Ebinimi Alazagha says the authority has arrested and prosecuted 31 offenders of sanitation law .

Our Bayelsa State Correspondent reports that Mr. Alazagha stated this while briefing journalists at the office premises after monitoring the monthly State sanitation exercise in Yenagoa.

He said the defaulters including 20 males and 11 females for different offences committed has been tried and prosecuted in accordance with the relevant sanitation laws in the State.

There was low turnout of the monthly sanitation exercise recorded in the State, which according to him "was attributed to the political activities gearing up ahead of the November 16,  2019 governorship election".

Mr. Alazgha said the vision of Chief Robert Enougha led sanitation authority is to ensure that Bayelsa is recorded amongst the cleanest cities in Nigeria.

He also commended the Mayor of Yenagoa local government council, Hon. Uroupaye Nimizuoa and the Rotary International Club for their participation in the monthly exercise in ensuring that potholes within Tombia roundabout is patched for easy vehicular movement.

Also speaking, the Controller of Bayelsa State Environmental Sanitation Authority, Mr. Stephen Monebor warned producers of bottle waters, food stuffs and other consumables in the State to ensure that expired products are not distributed to the public for consumption, adding that anyone caught will be prosecuted in Court.

His words: "It is the political activities that marred the low turn out of individuals, but however, we commends Bayelsans who came out during the exercise. I am satisfied with the turnout  because we made some arrest and the compliance is satisfactory, people are working, cleaning their environment in areas visited, particularly the Tombia market, the Rotary International club, they came out en mass and clean up the Tombia market. I am calling on  agencies and organizations to partner with us, some have been doing it like Rotary International club, we are opening our windows for collaboration because waste management is all inclusiveness market, it is not meant for the authority alone. While we are in Tombia roundabout, the Major of Yenagoa city council Hon. Uroupaye Nimizuoa came out patching those potholes which has raised so much concern", he added.
